Interesting "Did  you Know" Facts about
Huskies.
The expression "Three dog night"
comes from the Eskimos. It
means a very cold night. So cold
in fact that you have to bed down
with three dogs to keep warm.
Historical Origins:
Siberian Huskies
originated in Siberia, Russia
originally.
Breed Usage:
They were and still are
used for sled as well as
companion dogs.
Weight: Siberian Huskies
average between 35-60 lbs.
Height: 20-23 inches at
shoulders
Life Span:
12-14 years (long term
friend and commitment)
Social Skills: Huskies are great
with other medium to large dogs.
They really enjoy playing with
smaller animals and cats but when
they become bored of playing,
their predatory instincts have a
way of showing and cats and
smaller animals can become
potential prey.
Have I mentioned that Huskies have a
HIGH ENERGY LEVEL?
They have strong sled-dog instincts and
need room to roam in a fenced in,
contained area. A lonely, bored husky will
find ways to expend his energy and
usually not in the ways that are pleasing
to their owners.
Training: Starting obedience
training early will benefit both
your husky and yourself. They
are extremely intelligent dogs
mixed with a strong stubborn
will. Training will require
consistency and patience but
will produce a wonderfully
behaved companion.
Personality: Siberian Huskies are great
family pets as long as their owners
understand upfront that they do require a
lot of patience, training and exercise.
Huskies are very strong willed and have a
mind of their own.
The daily calorie expenditure
of the sled dogs running in
Alaska's annual Iditarod race
averages 10,000.
Siberian Huskies have
been used to herd
reindeer in Siberia for
3,000 years.
Husky dog's noses go dry
at night so that they
don't freeze up in the
sub-zero temperatures.
Siberian Huskies'
communal howling is a
distinguishing feature of
the breed.
Siberians have a natural
inclination for digging. Some dig
to escape, others dig to create
cooling pits, while for others, it's
just something fun to do.
Siberians are much
gentler and more amiable
with other dogs than
other Northern breeds.
Siberian Huskies make wonderful
companions. For that same reason
they do not make good guard or
watch dogs. They would much
rather play than protect.
