Being Owned By A Siberian
Siberian Huskies are a unique breed. People who have
had the pleasure of sharing their lives with a Siberian
Husky dog know what we mean when we say, 'being
owned by a Siberian Husky'... Please be sure to
research these beautiful and devoted companions before
considering one for yourself! The Siberian Husky is an
active, energetic and resilient breed whose
ancestors
came from the extremely cold and harsh environment of
the Siberian Arctic. A Siberian Husky puppy can be a
challenging breed of dog to train due to their strong will
and independent nature. Proper Siberian Husky training
requires persistence and patience. Siberian Huskies are
not generally recommended for first time dog owners
who are not informed and prepared, as their
breed-specific traits and desire to run can sometimes be
difficult for inexperienced dog owners to understand and
manage.

I put that first paragraph in because
I'm ashamed to say, when we acquired our first husky
we were exactly the type of people we warn against.
Steve had wanted a Siberian for years because he loved
their beauty but we did very little research before
deciding they were the breed for us.
Due to the winter weather, it took Santa's magic to get
Nuka to us. At 11:30pm on Christmas Eve, Steve picked
him up at the airport and our son Dawson's Christmas
wish had arrived.
Nuka was the most striking puppy we had ever seen and
he immediately stole our hearts. As he grew and we
began to research Siberians we realized how unprepared
we were for this dynamic breed of dog.
When Nuka came to live with us, we chose to keep him
indoors. Although we exercised him daily, at about 6
months we realized that he yearned to be outside. We
enclosed our back field and Nuka loved his new
surroundings.
When Nuka came to us we had aspirations of training
him to be a show dog. He attended training classes
which were as beneficial to him as to us. His trainer was
constantly amazed at how intelligent Nuka was. Although
we still believe him to be the most beautiful and
intelligent Siberian Husky in the world, the world of dog
shows wasn't meant for Nuka. We know we have a
superior dog and having titles to prove it is now of little
importance.
As Nuka grew, we learned so much about his wonderful
breed of dog. Our three boys love to play with Nuka and
we became one tight pack. Since Huskies are pack dogs,
we decided last year to expand our pack and get Nuka a
playmate.
In February of 2007, Saraha joined our pack. She and
Nuka quickly bonded and his entire demeanor changed as
he now had a playmate full time.
We weren't certain that we would breed the dogs when
we got Sahara. It was more important for us to make
sure we were devoted to our two dogs because of the
joy they brought.
Not knowing a lot about female dogs, when Sahara went
through her first heat cycle, we began our research
venture again. We separated the dogs and began learning
all we could about breeding to determine if we wanted to
go that route. We  decided that when the time came we
would let nature take its course and in May of this year,
we were blessed with four beautiful female
puppies.
Watching the puppies grow and develop was such a
wonderful experience and now they have all found homes
with wonderful families whom they will bring years of joy.
It is our desire to share our beloved dogs with you.
This site is our way of helping new, current, and future
Siberian Husky owners learn more about this magnificent
breed, and to show off our Siberians!
Enjoy!
